Cauliflower steak

Are you trying to cut back on meat? This caramelized cauliflower steak is a vegan alternative to a meat steak. Cauliflower steak might sound fancy, but it’s very easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs cauliflower 1 large head, stem removed and sliced lengthwise into 4 steaks
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • Red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place the cauliflower steaks onto the lined baking sheet. You should get 3–4 steaks from one head
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste. Whisk until well combined.
  • Brush the seasoning mixture generously on both sides of each cauliflower steak.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven, brush both sides again with the remaining seasoning mixture, and gently flip each steak.
  • Bake for another 15 minutes, until golden and tender.
  • Remove from the oven, sprinkle with red pepper flakes (if using), and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Slice the cauliflower evenly into thick slabs so that they cook evenly.
  • Brush the cauliflower with oil to help it cook evenly and become tender.
  • Once the steaks are tender and lightly browned, remove them because overcooking can make them mushy and lose their flavor.
  • Allow the roasted cauliflower to rest briefly before serving to retain moisture and flavor.
