Classic Homemade Lemonade

When looking for something refreshing and healthy to drink after having a delicious breakfast or dinner, lemonade is a great go-to option. It is quick, easy to make and the perfect refreshing drink on hot summer days!

Ingredients

  • 6-8 large fresh lemons enough for 1 cup of lemon juice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar or adjust to taste
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • lemon slices and fresh mint leaves for garnish optional

Instructions

Step 1: Squeeze the Lemon Juice

  • Wash and dry the lemons thoroughly.
  • Cut the fresh lemons in half.
  • Use a juicer to squeeze the juice out of the lemons.
  • Pour the lemon juice through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl to remove any seeds or pulp. You should have about 1 cup of lemon juice.

Step 2: Make Simple Syrup

  • In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the simple syrup cool to room temperature.

Step 3: Combine Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup, and Water

  • In a large pitcher, combine the strained lemon juice with the cooled simple syrup.
  • Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water to the pitcher and stir well to combine.

Step 4: Adjust Flavor and Serve

  • Taste the lemonade and adjust the sweetness and tartness to your preference by adding more sugar or lemon juice if needed.
  • Add ice cubes to the pitcher and give it a final stir.
  • Serve the lemonade in glasses filled with ice cubes, garnished with lemon slices and fresh mint leaves, if desired.
