Sauteed onions are a quick and easy onion recipe with deep aromatic flavor, sweet taste, and tender texture. It’s a great addition to dishes like sandwiches, omelets, salad, burgers, soup, and more. You can also enjoy it as a side dish if you are a great fan of onions.
When the pan is hot, add the oil and butter. When the butter has melted, swirl the pan so that it’s evenly coated with fat.
Add the onions and cook, stirring constantly, for 5-8 minutes, until the onions soften and take on a pale golden color. If the onions brown too fast, turn down the heat. Remove from heat and stir in the salt and pepper.
Notes
Fry your onions on medium-high heat and keep an eye on it to avoid burning. Check and stir occasionally.
Regulate the temperature if it is too high. Avoid overcooking your sauteed onion to avoid it turning into caramelized onions.
Don’t overcrowd the pan. Choose the right size that can take the onions. If you cannot make the onions at once, you can cook them in batches.
Some people prefer adding sugar to the onions. I don’t think it is necessary because the onions have sugar naturally, and the sweetness comes out the more you fry them in the oil.
