Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 yellow onions chopped
  • teaspoon salt and pepper or add to tatste

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • When the pan is hot, add the oil and butter. When the butter has melted, swirl the pan so that it’s evenly coated with fat.
  • Add the onions and cook, stirring constantly, for 5-8 minutes, until the onions soften and take on a pale golden color. If the onions brown too fast, turn down the heat. Remove from heat and stir in the salt and pepper.

Notes

  • Fry your onions on medium-high heat and keep an eye on it to avoid burning. Check and stir occasionally.
  • Regulate the temperature if it is too high. Avoid overcooking your sauteed onion to avoid it turning into caramelized onions.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan. Choose the right size that can take the onions. If you cannot make the onions at once, you can cook them in batches.
  • Some people prefer adding sugar to the onions. I don’t think it is necessary because the onions have sugar naturally, and the sweetness comes out the more you fry them in the oil.
