Ingredients
2cupsall-purpose flour
1 to 1¼cupswateras needed
2teaspoonsyeast
¼ to ½cupsugaradjust to taste
1teaspoonnutmegoptional
½teaspoonsalt
1small onion
1habanero pepperor cayenne
oil enough for deep frying
Instructions
Blend the onion and habanero pepper together until smooth. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and nutmeg (if using). Mix well.
Add the blended onion and habanero mixture to the dry ingredients.
Gradually add water while mixing until you get a smooth, thick, lump-free batter.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a tight lid and let the batter rise for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until doubled or nearly tripled in size.
Heat oil in a deep pan to about 350°F (175°C).
Scoop small portions of the batter (about the size of a table tennis ball) and carefully drop into the hot oil.
Fry until golden brown on all sides, turning as needed.
